Swedish Assignment for ArchitectenConsort

ArchitectenConsort has won a bid for the design of an ecological housing project in the South East Swedish city of Kalmar. In the evaluation the design was rewarded for its ‘situational’ vision on the placing of 21 ecological houses in an area which is originally adjacent to forest like surroundings. The houses are ‘built for life’. They are energy efficient and will be constructed from sustainable and local raw materials. In addition, the design creates common areas intended to enhance social cohesion, making the project sustainable from an environmental as well as from a social perspective. Every house is designed with protected and private outer spaces and large windows on all sides. This design leads to various positive effects: daylight is allowed to penetrate deeply into the living areas whilst offering multiple lines of vision on the surrounding natural beauty. The project is due to commence mid 2011.
